April Fool’s Day pranks sweep through Pirkanmaa
April Fool’s Day pranks were staged across Pirkanmaa on 1 April, from fake TV ideas and robotics at Tampere’s library to playful city, rescue and sports-related announcements.
Several April Fool’s Day pranks popped up across Pirkanmaa on 1 April, with Tampere and nearby towns rolling out everything from fake TV concepts to robotics and themed events, Aamulehti writes. In Lempäälä, the municipal director Noora Pajari described plans for an upcoming summer TV show called Lemptation Island, saying a new outdoor destination, Salonsaari, would serve as the setting for a gentle love reality concept where local couples can apply to test their relationship’s staying power. Nokia, meanwhile, marked Pauliina Pikan’s first day as the city’s new mayor, presenting it on social media with modern tools and working connections. Tampere also joined in: the city library said it had acquired a shelving robot, which it claimed was tested at the Metso adult section and could be recognized by wearing a library sweatshirt, with a model number AP-1-4-R1L. The city added that the popular Valoviikot event Tanssivat vedet would get a calmer “sister” display, Seinäruusuvedet, featuring two floating solar-powered fountains near the Tammerkoski river wall during April. Elsewhere, the Pirkanmaa Rescue Department and paramedics joked about opening a new Nekala rescue and paramedic station restaurant called Nakit & Muusi in a year, while local politicians and sports clubs also used April Fool’s promotions and brand announcements—although the article notes that many fans seemed to treat them as obvious pranks. Atte Virolainen, who works as a politician but is trained as a firefighter-paramedic, posted a mock offer to sell ad space on his face, with weekly prices depending on placement. Ilves-konserni said it had signed a significant international-level cooperation deal that would even affect its visual identity, claiming the club would wear red kits due to the new partner during upcoming home matches, and said details would be revealed around the weekend events. Tappara, in turn, reportedly got a “fan” endorsement switch from presenter-actor-musician Heikki Paasonen, who joked that after 35 years supporting Helsinki IFK, he was jumping to the 2020s’ most successful team to enjoy spring playoff games.
