Christian Democrat Sari Tanus seeks fourth term, calls to raise social media age to 16

Sari Tanus, a Tampere MP for the Christian Democrats, is running for a fourth consecutive term in the spring parliamentary elections, Tamperelainen reports. The decision follows a wider pattern of many Pirkanmaa MPs signalling they will run again in a recent survey, and Tanus has previously warned that rural Finland must be actively supported raising rural policy concerns.

Tanus, now a grandmother of two, says parliamentary work often means long absences from Tampere and 60–70 hour weeks. She serves on four committees, compared with the average MP's two. Citing supporters' requests and the need for resilient, cooperative leadership, she lists her priorities: the economy, security, healthcare, services for older people and education. "Parliament needs people who can work together, are competent and can withstand pressure," she says.

On schools, she wants to strengthen basic skills by adding more classroom support so teachers can focus on teaching. She backs volunteer "school grandparent" programs and a restoration of teacher authority. She argues phones should be banned for the whole school day and would raise the minimum social media age to 16, above the European Commission's current proposal. For Pirkanmaa she emphasises support for growth companies, internationalisation and faster business services, plus tighter cooperation between workforce services, Kela and healthcare. She also proposes a flexible adult education model to boost employment. Tanus says her party aims for two MPs in Pirkanmaa and would consider greater government responsibilities if the opportunity arises.
