Digital 3D Venue Tools Boost Event Safety and Sales

Tapahtumateollisuus announced that the Digital Event Design project, known as 3D Venueinfo, is using digital tools and 3D modeling to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the events industry nationwide, while supporting business in event venues and regional vitality from 2026 onward.

The press release says the project’s space models help increase venue sales and usage rates and can also be used to plan event security. The approach is intended to support more cost-effective accessibility arrangements and the creation of accessibility descriptions for events, while strengthening coordination and dialogue between venue operators and safety authorities. The association’s CEO Sami Kerman says the sector needs new ways to improve productivity and competitiveness, arguing that digital tools and modeling expertise can both enhance safety and accessibility and help venues get closer to their full capacity.

The project is described as building on a highly demanded initiative carried out in Päijät-Häme in 2023–2025, with the lessons scaled up nationally. LAB University of Applied Sciences project lead Aki Helminen says the programme provides practical tools for planning venues and executing events, enabling teams to model and visualize spaces, technology, security, and customer experience in advance to streamline production, reduce risks, and improve collaboration.

According to the release, training and coaching sessions will be held between 2026 and 2028 in Turku, Oulu, Tampere, Kuopio, and Seinäjoki, with locations selected to also serve wider regions. The work in each area begins with venue modeling before locally targeted training for industry actors. The project is co-financed by the European Union, with the funding authority listed as the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeastern Finland (ESR+), and the implementation period set for 1 January 2026 to 31 May 2028.
