Far-right Extremism Tied to Youth Violence and Child Recruitment in Pirkanmaa

Sisä-Suomen poliisi told Tamperelainen that far-right extremist ideas are spreading among young people across Pirkanmaa. Officers have observed admiration for violent ideology and links between online content and changes in youth behaviour.

They say recent violent crimes in Pirkanmaa have been connected to racist or ideological motives, and that recruitment of ever-younger children into groups is a growing concern, sometimes taking place in schools, hobby clubs and fan communities. A racist motive or crimes committed as a group can be treated as an aggravating factor in court, so suspected networks are being monitored closely.

Authorities urge parents, guardians and other responsible adults to watch for sudden changes in a young person’s behaviour, clothing, interest in violence or social circles, and to raise concerns calmly and without judgment. Adults are encouraged to stay involved in what children do online, at school and during leisure time, and to offer a safe space for young people to discuss troubling thoughts.
