Finland will meet the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs, with the home leg at Tammela Stadium in Tampere during the two-legged tie on 9–17 November. The draw, held on Friday, was favourable for Finland; Ireland have never reached an under-21 final tournament, and tougher opponents such as the Netherlands were possible. Finland finished a clear second behind Spain in qualifying and even beat Spain at Tammela late in September. The winner of the November tie advances to next summer's U21 European Championship in Albania and Serbia. Mika Lehkosuo's side are chasing only their third ever and second consecutive finals appearance. Other play-off pairings include Denmark–Netherlands, Iceland–Greece and Turkey–Czech Republic. The draw was reported by Aamulehti.
