Next week drivers and residents should expect slower traffic and temporary road controls as 97 historic cars pass through the Tampere region, Tamperelainen reports.
Organised by Tampereen Seudun Mobilistit for the Finnish Federation of Historic Vehicle Associations (SAHK), the FIVA World Event 2026 – Two Lakes Tour centres on Frenckell Square and is part of Tampere's summer calendar. The rally was previously reported as the FIVA World Rally in late July. Ninety-seven cars will take part. The oldest is a 1911 Brasier, the newest a 1990 VW Golf Cabrio. Thirty-five vehicles come from abroad, with the largest foreign contingent, 22 cars, from Germany. A public exhibition opens Monday from 15:00 to 18:00 at P-Frenckell. On Tuesday and Wednesday the cars set off from Frenckell at 09:00.
Tuesday’s route runs via Tottijärvi to Laukon Manor, with about a three-hour stop before returning through Lempäälä. A pause is planned at the manor.
Wednesday’s drive goes through Kaukajärvi and Saarenmaantie to Kangasala. Children at the new Pikkola daycare are expected to wave at about 10:00. The route then continues via the church village and Herttualantie to the Tiihala loop, with a pause at the Vehoniemi Automobile Museum. A later stop is planned at Pakkala village shop around 11:45 to 13:15.
Organisers say the museum vehicles will share public roads with regular traffic and have listed temporary traffic arrangements around Frenckell, Mustalahti, Laukko yard, the Highway 12/Tiihalantie junction, Vehoniemi and the Mobilia area.
SAHK has signalled a major announcement at the FIVA gathering. The visit coincides with the Ministry of Education and Culture adding Finland’s motor touring tradition to the national Inventory of Living Heritage, following a proposal from the Finnish Heritage Agency. The national list now includes 107 items, ranging from communal voluntary work and clinker-built boats to sauna bathing, the opening of the Finnish summer and glassblowing.
