Five Crime Trends From Tampere Police Statistics
Five crime trends emerge from last year's police statistics for Tampere and nearby municipalities, Tamperelainen reports. Detective Chief Inspector Pasi Mettälä notes that a worsening pattern of drug use underpins many crimes.
From the Central Finland Police's annual data, five notable trends emerge: a nationwide surge in petty thefts, with Tampere recording a 14 percent rise in reported property crimes, including alcohol and groceries; violence is up, with assaults increasing 11 percent in Tampere, both in public and private spaces, though still around 2023 levels. The drunk-driving statistic appears misleading, with drunk-driving offenses down 14 percent from the previous year, while total traffic offenses fell by about 1,000 from 2023 and nearly 300 from 2024, a shift police attribute to tighter policing hours. In Kangasala, aggravated assaults rose by 400 percent, and general assault numbers increased as well; 2024 is described as an unusual year across several crime categories, with 2023 showing the same level as 2025. In Pirkkala, rape offenses rose by 1,200 percent to 13 cases last year, and some notices cover multiple acts; many cases involve people who already know each other.
