Hockey legend Timo Jutila to run for parliament in Pirkanmaa with National Coalition

Hockey legend Timo Jutila is running as a National Coalition parliamentary candidate in the Pirkanmaa electoral district in next spring's election. The 63-year-old Tampere native and former captain of Finland's 1995 world championship team intends to bring a sports-style team spirit to parliament, and plans to focus on security, elderly welfare and opportunities for young people. Although he now lives in Uusimaa, Jutila chose Pirkanmaa because of deep family and business ties in Tampere. His company runs hospitality suites and event operations, and he still spends about 200 days a year in the city. The campaign starts immediately. The National Coalition will appear at Laukontori next Saturday, with his wife serving as campaign manager, and he has suggested the slogan "let's move forward" may headline his run. His entry follows the party's spring nominations in Pirkanmaa, which drew headlines for surprise picks on the National Coalition's regional list, according to Aamulehti.

Tamperelainen adds that Minister Anna-Kaisa Ikonen and former minister Arto Satonen were also among the five new candidates approved for the National Coalition's 2027 parliamentary list in Pirkanmaa, along with Sofia Vikman, Sonja Hietaranta and Jari Andersson, the chair of Pirkanmaa Kokoomus. The district meeting approved all additions.

Tamperelainen further reports that Andersson said in a press release that the goal is to combine experience from national politics with expertise in healthcare and entrepreneurship, as well as broader civic engagement.
