The Interior Ministry will end its Peto-media alert feed for rescue services on September 1, a change Tilannehuone says could cause delays and gaps in incident reporting to media and the public.

The Interior Ministry will end its rescue services' Peto-media alert feed on September 1, changing how incident notifications reach Finnish media and the public, Tamperelainen reports.

The move follows national reporting that the ministry will stop automatic emergency alerts to media in September and ties into Finland's plan to end automatic emergency alerts.

Tilannehuone, which draws about one million users a month, will continue to operate but expects less immediate information, its lead reporter Rami Mikkola said. Rescue departments will now send alerts on their own timetables, and Mikkola warned that if the plug is pulled, small tasks may stop appearing and delays are likely. That could leave gaps in the public record.

Tilannehuone has been preparing by adding automated intelligence and trying to connect to local bulletin systems such as the Eastern Finland Rescue Department's otiedote.fi, but not all regions have compatible systems. The main editors' association has appealed to the Interior Ministry for an extension, saying the change risks timely public information, fuels rumours and increases rescue authorities' workload.

Tilannehuone is run by a Turku company with two employees and volunteers; the service is maintained as a hobby project rather than a full-time operation.
