Aki Peltonen, sales manager for J. Rinta-Jouppi Bike Helsinki, says the surge reflects the wider economic situation shaping buyer behaviour. "Price is being considered much more carefully right now. We are seeing more customers trade their current bike for a cheaper option; they do not necessarily want to give up the hobby, they are adapting their fleet to the situation," Peltonen said.
Average selling prices have fallen about four percent for January–September compared with the same period last year, while the most popular price bracket remains €5,000–€10,000. The retailer monitors monthly sales and its own stock prices to keep the selection aligned with demand, and Peltonen suggested the downward pressure on prices could reverse next year.
He described a parallel trend among active enthusiasts: instead of leaving the hobby, many riders maintain several bikes for different purposes. Adventure models extend the riding season in spring and autumn, while other bikes are used for mid-summer trips. Returning customers often buy a second or third motorcycle, even as new riders continue to enter the hobby.
Sales have been especially strong around Tampere, where the Lielahti Bike outlet recorded nearly a 50 percent increase compared with the same period last year. "Lielahti has taken a big step forward this year. The growth shows our presence in the Tampere region has strengthened and we have expanded our customer base," said sales director Markku Ala-Hakuni. The company is hosting season-closing events at its stores this weekend, when many customers are expected to make decisions about next season’s bikes.
This trend echoes an earlier report showing that a Tampere-area vehicle dealer posted strong growth despite a challenging market.
