Lake Iidesjärvi Bird Walk Kicks Off Tampere’s Spring Nature Series
A bird walk at Lake Iidesjärvi on 4 April launches Tampere’s spring and summer series of nature outings, with guided walks, specialist foraging sessions, children’s activities and volunteer invasive-species work running through August.
Participants should meet at the Nekalantie–Lounaantie junction (Nekalantie 48). The Iidesjärvi walk follows an easy two-kilometre loop on flat, wide paths and will focus on wintering birds, the season’s first migrants and how urban waters influence bird life.
The programme runs through August. Highlights include a repeat visit to Iidesjärvi on 10 May (meeting at 10:00 at the lake's west end, Lokintaipale), an excursion to Rahola's Piikaha on 17 May, deadwood studies at Pättiniemi on 19 May and a small-bird listening walk on Villilänsaari on 31 May.
Specialist outings include evening wild-herb foraging sessions that require registration. The first sessions are in Vuores on 11 May, Kaukaniemi on 21 May and Tohloppi on 15 June.
Children's nature walks run on weekday afternoons in June, starting at 16:00; sites include Hikivuori, Vuohenoja and Peltolammi–Pärrinkoski, and guardians are welcome. Volunteers can help with invasive species cleanup on several Tuesdays in June.
