Mohamed Salah will miss Egypt’s away Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan on 29 September after the Egyptian Football Association told the BBC it had decided to rest him over concerns about the match being played on artificial turf, Aamulehti reports. The absence has renewed attention on Trabzonspor’s upcoming UEFA Conference League trip to Tampere. KuPS host Trabzonspor at Tammela Stadium on 15 October, and it is not yet known whether the Turkish club will adopt the same precaution. The Tammela fixture had sold out after demand surged following Trabzonspor’s signing of Salah earlier this month. Salah, 34, moved from Liverpool to Trabzonspor this season. He has opened his Turkish league campaign with seven goals in six appearances. The federation’s decision puts pressure on organisers and clubs to weigh player safety and availability when matches are scheduled on synthetic turf.
