Tampere Big Band marked its 40th anniversary with a concert at Tampere Conservatory’s Pyynikki Hall, featuring four world premieres of Heikki Sarmanto compositions and performances by Pamela Kilpeläinen.

"The concert aims to highlight the Big Band's current prowess, formed from top musicians," Tamperelainen reports, as Tampere Big Band marks its 40th anniversary with a concert at the Tampere Conservatory's Pyynikki Hall on Sunday at 6 pm.

The jazz‑themed celebration is the second anniversary concert for the professional 20‑piece ensemble, which has played hundreds of gigs and released two albums. Conductor Juha Untala says Sunday’s program will feature four Heikki Sarmanto compositions receiving world premieres, with Pamela Kilpeläinen as soloist performing Emily Dickinson poems in arrangements by Saku Järvinen.

The band also presents newer works by Jukka Linkola and Petri Nieminen, while the second half will reach back to traditional swing and bebop tunes from the golden era of big band music. The Tampere Big Band, a professional outfit, continues its milestone celebration with this performance at Tampere Conservatory’s Pyynikki Hall on Sunday evening.
