Tampere has received a €100,000 Traficom grant to develop Teiskon airfield into a research and product-development site, Tamperelainen reported.
Traficom allocated €903,900 to airfields across the country. City officials say the project will create a testing environment for drones. The total budget is €153,000, with Tampere planning to finance €53,000. Yle first reported the drone-testing plans.
The city owns Teiskon airfield, which is in Velaata in the area of the former Teisko municipality. Tampereen Vauhtipuisto has operated an aviation and motorsport centre on the site, but its lease expires at year-end and its future there is uncertain.
