Tampere is seeking artists to create artworks for three new tram stops – Arboretum, Rantaperkiö and Härmälä – on the Pirkkala extension, with portfolios open until 11 September.

Tampere is seeking artists to create artwork for three new tram stops, Arboretum, Rantaperkiö and Härmälä, ahead of services on the Pirkkala extension in 2028, Aamulehti reports.

Portfolios are open until September 11. Selected artists or artist groups will be paid €3,500 for a commissioned sketch. The works must be two-dimensional and digitizable. Photos, comics and text-based pieces are all acceptable. They will be produced as laminated digital prints on splash-protection panels, the same technique used at the Hippos and Uintikeskus stops.

Antti Haukka, the project manager, says the artworks should help tram users connect with the areas' histories, for example Hatanpää manor or Härmälä's industrial past.

The Ratikan taide committee (the tram art programme) will decide whether each stop gets its own artist or whether a single creator designs all three sites. Production is planned for 2027, with installation before services begin in 2028. The programme has involved 94 artists and delivered 73 completed projects so far. Earlier this year Tampere Tram advanced several artists in a separate Pirkkala stop search.
