Tampere trains 116 new doctors amid specialist training funding concerns

Tampere University graduates 116 new medical licentiates on Friday in Tampere's main hall, Aamulehti writes. Including this year's graduates, the university has produced a total of 4,554 medical licentiates.

Dean Seppo Parkkila of the Faculty of Medicine, Health Technology warns that state funding for specialist training is lagging behind the costs and could threaten future training. He notes that shortages may be more pronounced in northern and eastern Finland. Looking ahead, AI will transform many specialties but will not replace doctors; the focus will shift toward prevention, personalized care, and greater patient involvement.
