Tampereen Komediateatteri Wins 2026 Pirkanmaa Prize After Record Season, Tuulensuun Palatsi Purchase

According to Aamulehti, Tampereen Komediateatteri has been awarded the 2026 Pirkanmaa Prize for boosting regional culture and creating jobs. The prize was presented at Tampere City Hall on 1 September.

The award was received by theatre director Panu Raipia and Tampereen Komediateatteri Foundation CEO Teemu Ojala. The Pirkanmaa Regional Council's board praised the theatre's vitality and year-round cultural offering, and noted its success in hiring staff during challenging times. Raipia said he was deeply moved by the recognition: "It's wonderful that the work our staff do every day has had an impact on people." Sixteen people work permanently for the theatre, and nearly 100 receive payments from its productions each year.

The board singled out the company's recent achievements, including a record-breaking 2025 season that drew more than 100,000 visitors. It also highlighted the January purchase of Tuulensuun Palatsi, which expanded seating and made the theatre one of Finland's largest by audience capacity. The prize comes with Markku Salo's Valkohäntä sculpture, while a separate €7,000 grant from the Jussi V. Niemi fund was awarded for children's and youth theatre activities. Officials said the honour underlines culture's role in giving young people hope and driving regional well-being.
