Tamperrada founder Mikko Reinikka awarded Basque Premio de Honor
Tamperrada founder Mikko Reinikka will receive the Basque Premio de Honor at a gala in Bilbao on 19 November for his role building Finland’s largest restaurant festival, which has sold over three million pintxos since 2013.
Mikko Reinikka, founder of Tampere’s Tamperrada restaurant festival, has been awarded the Premio de Honor by the Basque and Navarre pintxo championships. The accolade will be celebrated at a gala in Bilbao on 19 November, Tamperelainen reports.
Since 2013 Tamperrada has grown into Finland’s largest restaurant festival. This year the total number of pintxos sold in the event’s history topped three million.
Reinikka credits Tampere restaurateurs and staff with building the festival without public or city funding. In a press release he said receiving recognition from the Basques was the greatest honour he never imagined.
Michelin chef Pekka Terävä, a long-time member of Tamperrada’s judging panel, will join Reinikka in Bilbao. Terävä has been invited as the first Finnish judge for the Basque and Navarre pintxo final.
