Ticketed Taidevaltakunta Biennial Shares Entrance With Free Finlayson Summer Exhibition

Aamulehti reports that at the Finlayson factory area in Tampere this summer, the ticketed Taidevaltakunta biennial shares an entrance with the free Finlayson Art Area summer exhibition, a setup that has left some visitors unclear about signage and ticketing. The arrangement follows the biennial's June launch across Finlayson and Haihara while the Tampere Art Museum is under renovation, and early previews noted that Taidevaltakunta features participatory performances and installations that invite public involvement as described in June coverage.

With the Tampere Art Museum under renovation, the museum has staged Taidevaltakunta at Finlayson and Haihara. Museum services director Heidi Gottskalk told Aamulehti by email that the admission fee has been a barrier for some visitors; she said the biennial’s ticket is still cheaper than regular museum fees and that the show is available with the museum card.

Reactions on the ground are mixed. Many visitors used museum cards and reported no trouble finding either exhibition. Some regulars suggested clearer signage or a simple map, a point voiced by visitor Justus Nurminen. Others came specifically to see artists such as Erik Nieminen or combined their visit with Tampere Theatre Festival plans. Both Taidevaltakunta and the Finlayson Art Area run through August 16.
