Try ice self-rescue on a floating platform at Tesoma pool on Oct 22
A floating ice platform will be installed at Tesoma swimming pool on Oct. 22 so participants can practise getting back onto the ice after falling through; the session is organised by the Finnish Swimming Instruction and Lifesaving Federation (SUH) and LähiTapiola Pirkanmaa.
A floating ice platform will be installed in the pool so participants can practise getting back onto the ice from the water.
Organised by the Finnish Swimming Instruction and Lifesaving Federation (SUH) and LähiTapiola Pirkanmaa, the session encourages participants to wear winter clothes, a coverall and boots to make the exercise more realistic. Participants may even attempt the manoeuvre with skis on.
"Falling through the ice is a situation no one wants to face, but that's exactly why it's worth practising in safe conditions," says Anne Hiltunen, SUH water safety specialist. She will lead the drills and share practical tips for safe ice travel and self-rescue.
The session is part of a five-stop floating ice platform tour by SUH and LähiTapiola that gives people hands-on experience they cannot safely gain on natural ice.
