Large construction project in central Tampere – district heating pipes replaced near the Cathedral

Aamulehti reports that a two-phase district heating renovation in central Tampere will disrupt traffic around Satakunnankatu in spring and summer 2026. Work will be carried out in two phases: Phase 1 runs from April 1 to June 18 at the corner of Rautatienkatu and Satakunnankatu; Phase 2 runs from June 22 to August 30 along Satakunnankatu between Tuomiokirkonkatu and Aleksanterinkatu. Tampereen Energia says the ageing pipeline must be replaced to prevent outages and to improve the reliability and energy efficiency of the district heating network.

Aamulehti notes that the construction will take up street space because the large pipes require a wide trench. The project includes opening the street, removing old pipes, installing new pipes, backfilling the trench and restoring the street surface. The timetable could still change as work progresses.
