Volunteer sign-ups surge in Tampere after elderly story

Aamulehti reports that in Tampere, at least a hundred elderly people are waiting for volunteer friends to visit weekly. This appeal has sparked a wave of local interest in volunteering.
The paper notes that about 20 new volunteers have signed up so far, with half attending an information session on the day the article appeared and others joining future sessions.
The Tampere parishes' volunteer elder care centre Mummon Kammari says inquiries continue and there is room for many more volunteers, so more seniors can receive help.
