The band was formed in summer 1986 while travelling to Roskilde to see Sielun Veljet, with founders Takalo and Latvalehto among the original members. Aknestik’s intense period ended in 2002 under unclear circumstances, and the group has gigged sporadically since. Public opinion, including voices outside the band, says they are in better shape than ever.
