30‑ECTS study voucher lets Tampere students start free open-university and UAS courses

This autumn a Tampere-area young adult began open higher education studies using the new government study voucher. The local paper is now looking for other students who have started courses with the benefit and would be willing to be interviewed.

The national 30‑ECTS study voucher pilot allows young people who missed out on a degree place to take up to 30 credits free in open university or university of applied sciences courses. Previously, courses in open higher education were entirely fee-based, with credits typically costing between 15 and 45 euros. The trial runs through 2028.
