Asemakeskus stop inside travel terminal to replace Stockmann tram stop in 2031

Tampere city centre's busy Stockmann tram stop is set to be replaced in 2031 by a new Asemakeskus stop inside the city's travel terminal, Mika Periviita, Nysse's head of public transport, told Aamulehti. Built within the existing Itsenäisyydenkadun tunnel, the stop will provide direct indoor access to the train platforms. Other Hämeenkatu stops will remain in place, but Koskipuisto and Tulli will be lengthened to accommodate longer trams. The travel terminal will include bike parking, a connection to the P‑Hämppi parking garage and bus bays on Pakkahuoneen aukio. Periviita said the track alignment will stay the same and that the current Rautatieasema (railway station) stop at Stockmann will likely be removed once Asemakeskus is in use, though no formal decision has yet been made.
