Hervantakeskus tram stop to be lengthened starting 7 September
Extension work to lengthen the Hervantakeskus tram platform will begin in week 37 (7–11 Sept) and is scheduled to finish by 30 October, Tampereen Raitiotie Oy says.
Tampereen Raitiotie Oy said extension work on the Hervantakeskus tram stop will begin in week 37 (7–11 September) and is scheduled to finish by 30 October.
Work should not significantly affect tram or bus travel. Passengers will be able to board throughout, all tram doors will remain in use, and platform access will be directed from the north, toward the city centre. Some work will take place at night and nearby properties will be notified separately.
The platform will be lengthened southward toward Hervantajärvi. Insinöörinkatu's northern crossing will become a marked pedestrian crossing over the eastern track, while the southern crossing will be moved slightly and rebuilt as a full crosswalk.
Vehicular access to properties west of Insinöörinkatu will remain in the same place, although the vehicle path will be shifted a little to the south. Access to private plots will be maintained during the works.
Tampereen Puutarha-Center Oy is carrying out the contract for Tampereen Raitiotie Oy.
Platform lengthenings at Koskipuisto and Tulli are either complete or nearing completion, with only minor finishing work remaining at Koskipuisto while Tulli work continues.
The stop upgrades are part of preparations for 47-metre trams to run alongside the current 37-metre vehicles to meet growing demand. A 47-metre vehicle was tested on the network over the summer. The city aims to have 19 longer trams and 16 current-length trams in service when the Pirkkala–Linnainmaa line opens in summer 2028; currently 33 stop pairs are ready for 47-metre operation, with three stops left to adapt.
