Tampere's festival calendar fills September into early October 2026, led by the Backlight photography triennial (1 Sept–11 Oct) and a joint Tango–Guitar–Flamenco week in mid‑September.

Tampere's festival calendar for late summer and early autumn will be full, with events running across September into early October 2026. Highlights include the Backlight photography triennial, which opens on 1 September, and a joint Tango–Guitar–Flamenco week in mid‑September. The schedule follows the region's busy late‑summer festival programme that began in July.

Backlight, organised by the photography centre Valokuvakeskus Nykyaika, runs 1 September–11 October and is one of northern Europe’s longest‑running international photography festivals. Curated by Anna Ruth, this year’s theme, "The Art of Lying – The Skill of Lying," will examine how images shape perceptions in an era of artificial intelligence, misinformation and competing narratives.

From 11–20 September Tampere hosts a joint Tango–Guitar–Flamenco week, organised by Tampere Guitar Festival, Tampere Flamencoviikko and Tampere Tango Festival. The tango segment, 11–13 September, includes classes for beginners and advanced dancers plus milonga dance nights; guest teachers Marcelo Ramer and Selva Mastroti come from Argentina.

Tampere Guitar Festival runs 16–19 September with concerts, club gigs and workshops that highlight classical and flamenco guitar. International guests include the virtuosic duo Aniello Desiderio (Italy) and Zoran Dukić (Croatia), performing together in Finland for the first time, and Francisco Bernier (Spain), marking Manuel de Falla’s 150th anniversary. The programme also features free masterclasses and club shows, including a flamenco set at Galleria Himmelblau.

Tampereen Flamencoviikko (17–20 September) celebrates its 30th anniversary under the theme La Fiesta Flamenca and features international artists such as Mexican dancer Mario Ruiz. The family‑oriented MUKAMAS puppet theatre festival (16–20 September) presents modern puppetry from domestic companies and guests from Iceland, Canada and France. Looking ahead, the Lost In Music showcase returns 1–2 October with some 40 gigs around the city, and Tampere Jazz Happening and the Kirjalitta children’s book and literary festival are due later in the autumn.
