Tomaatteja! Tomaatteja! Festival Moves From May After Slow Sales
Organisers of the Tomaatteja! Tomaatteja! comedy festival say they will not return to May next year after ticket sales slowed at the 20–23 May Tampere event.
Tamperelainen reports that festival director Johanna Tohni said after the event in Tampere on 20–23 May: "It was an insanely great festival." Ticket sales had stalled a few weeks before the opening; Tohni estimated attendance was roughly one-third lower than last year.
Despite the shortfall, the festival covered its costs and fees, and many performers volunteered to help. "We don't need to see the bank manager," Tohni added.
Organisers confirmed the festival will not return to May next year, though no new dates have been fixed; returning to January remains a possibility. Tohni emphasised the event will stay in Tampere.
