Electric car collision repairs in Finland can cost up to 40% more than for petrol cars, driven mainly by battery and high-voltage work as well as pricier glass and ADAS components.

According to Tamperelainen, Pohjola Insurance's 2025 claims data show that electric car collision repairs in Finland can cost up to 40% more than for petrol cars. The insurer’s data show the average repair bill for electric vehicles substantially outpaces other powertrains.

The gap narrows for newer vehicles but remains significant: cars under five years old have about a 28% higher average compensation for collision damage. Windshield repairs on electric cars are roughly 39% costlier.

Pohjola points to battery technology, high-voltage systems and stricter safety procedures as the main reasons for the higher bills. A battery impact can require a full pack replacement. Components for advanced driver-assistance systems are pricier, and modern heated or coated windshields add to glass repair costs.
