Call for Artists to Create Glass Art for Hatanpää Tram Shelters
Artists are invited to submit portfolios by 18 November 2026 to design glass artworks for the Hatanpää tram stop shelters on the Viinikanlahti extension.
The Tram Art programme has opened a portfolio call until 18 November 2026 for three artists or artist groups to design glass surfaces for both shelters at the Hatanpää tram stop in the new Viinikanlahti residential area.
The commission forms part of the light-rail extension from Sorin aukio to Partola and from the Kauppi campus to Ruotula. Six new stops will be added between Sorin aukio and Partola, and four of them will receive artworks.
Arboretum, Rantaperkiö and Härmälä will feature art integrated into splash-protection panels. Hatanpää's works, by contrast, will be printed onto the shelters' glass walls and roofs as digital prints using ceramic pigments.
Earlier selections, announced in October, assigned works to Aino Louhi, the duo Sanna Kannisto and Juha Nenonen, and Taija Goldblatt. NEON will create the landmark piece Olio for the new Partola square, while Otto Karvonen will produce a separate work for Ruotula.
Selected artists for Hatanpää will receive a parallel-concept fee of €3,200 (+ VAT). Shortlisted creators must produce full drafts by March 2027, with final print files due in autumn 2027.
Tampereen Raitiotie Oy is organising the portfolio call and parallel commission, coordinated by Frei Zimmer Oy; the company's main owner is the City of Tampere. The Tram Art programme has so far involved 94 artists and produced 73 completed projects.
