Artists sought to design digital-printed artwork for Hatanpää tram stop
Artists can submit portfolios to design digital-printed artwork for the Hatanpää tram stop. Applications close on 18 November 2026.
A public portfolio call has opened for artwork at the Hatanpää tram stop on the new Viinikanlahti section of the tram extension. Submissions must be received by 18 November 2026 at 12:00.
Work to extend the tram route continues from Sorin aukio toward Partola and from the Kauppi campus toward Ruotula. Six new stops will be built between Sorin aukio and Partola, and four of those will receive permanent art installations. In October, Arboretum, Rantaperkiö and Härmälä were assigned works to Aino Louhi, the duo Sanna Kannisto and Juha Nenonen, and Taija Goldblatt. Partolanaukiö will feature a landmark piece called Olio by the artist pair NEON, and Otto Karvonen is creating work for the Ruotula stop. The current call follows a summer portfolio call for three stops on the Sorin aukio – Partola extension opened in August and the subsequent selection of artists for Arboretum, Härmälä and Rantaperkiö announced in October earlier this month.
Hatanpää stop sits at a key junction of the Viinikanlahti development, near the area’s central plaza and retail spaces. Viinikanlahti will eventually house about 3,000 residents.
Tampereen Raitiotie is seeking three artists or artist teams to prepare designs for the glass surfaces of both shelter canopies at the stop. The selected design will be produced as digital prints using ceramic pigments on the shelters’ glass walls and roofs. Any artistic technique is acceptable provided the imagery can be digitised for printing.
Selections will be made in November 2026 and parallel sketch work will be commissioned from December. Artists invited to the parallel commission will receive a sketch fee of €3,200 plus VAT. Sketches are due in March 2027. Final print files are expected in autumn 2027, though the timetable may be refined during the process. The call is organised by Tampereen Raitiotie Oy, with implementation coordination by Frei Zimmer Oy.
