A Vapriikki workshop on accessible communication will feature a panel of disability representatives, hands-on tactile and pictocommunication demonstrations, and is free to attend as part of Finland’s Disability History Month.

The afternoon opens with a panel titled My Way of Communicating, Your Way of Receiving. Susanna Hannu (Tampereen seudun Näkövammaiset ry), Jutta Selänpää (Invalidiliitto ry) and Netta Keski‑Levijoki (Secretariat of the truth and reconciliation process for the Deaf and sign language users) will share personal experiences.

Panelists will discuss communication tools, the effects of digital change, barriers to accessing information, face-to-face interaction and the future of inclusive communication.

Visitors can try tactile tools such as LEGO® Braille Bricks, and pictocommunication systems like Tikoteek and Bliss symbols. These hands-on demonstrations take place in Vapriikki's Post and Bits exhibition, which opened in May and traces communication from letters to the digital era the Post and Bits exhibition.

Aimed at anyone interested in communication diversity, students in related fields and people who use alternative communication methods, the event is part of Finland’s Disability History Month. Admission is free and open to all.
