Ella Mettänen to Star in Stage Adaptation of Rosa Liksom's Väylä in Nurmes

Vapaan Teatteri, Teatteri Jurka, Lahden kaupunginteatteri and Tampereen Työväen Teatteri said in a press release that they will present a stage adaptation of Rosa Liksom’s novel Väylä at Hannikaisen sali in Nurmes-talo on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

Mikko Roiha has dramatized and directs the production, which stars Ella Mettänen, winner of the Olavi Veistäjä award. Väylä continues a series that began with Ei kertonut katuvansa, which examines wartime conditions from women’s perspectives. The play premiered at Teatteri Jurka in autumn 2025 and has toured widely across Finland.

Set at the outset of the Lapland War, the drama follows a young girl who drives cattle toward safety across the Swedish border. The staging emphasizes migration and identity. It uses regional dialect and stark, contrasting language to probe themes of survival and a lost mother.

The Nurmes performance runs two hours including an intermission. Tickets cost €25 and €20 and are available in advance online and at the door from one hour before curtain. Producers say the production will run at least through spring 2027, and it is scheduled to appear in Tampere later this autumn when Ella Mettänen performs Väylä at the Frenckell stage.
