Martti Suosalo to Star in TTT Spring 2027; Peltola Collaboration Continues

Tampereen Työväen Teatteri unveiled its spring 2027 programme at a press breakfast on 23 October the theatre's press briefing. The season highlights three main-season premieres in February: Virittäjä on the Main Stage, Amy Herzog’s adaptation of An Enemy of the People on the Eino Salmelainen stage, and Opettaja, nyt in the Basement Theatre.

Virittäjä is a co-production with Sirkus Suosalo and continues the collaboration between Sirkku Peltola and Martti Suosalo following their success in Kärpäset. Suosalo appears alone on stage, accompanied only by a piano and a radiator. The production premieres on 11 February 2027 on the Main Stage. A line from the play used in press materials captures its tone: "Something in a person is crying. Something in a person is always crying."

Amy Herzog’s 2024 Broadway adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People receives its Finnish premiere on 4 February 2027 at the Eino Salmelainen stage. Directed by Samuli Reunanen, the production features an eight-strong cast with Janne Kallioniemi as Dr. Stockmann. The play follows a small Norwegian town’s plans for a new spa and the civic upheaval when pollution in the water supply is revealed. Herzog’s version won a Drama Desk Award for best adaptation.

Opettaja, nyt, winner of the 2025 Lea Prize for best play text, opens at the Basement Theatre on 18 February 2027. The play, which premiered at Q-teatteri, follows a theatre school teacher wrestling with ageing, changing student attitudes and the meaning of teaching amid the climate crisis. Riko Saatsi directs. Minna Hokkanen plays the teacher and shares the stage with former students from Näty.

The season also includes several guest performances and ongoing runs. From January to April, Linnateatteri’s children’s comedy Tatu ja Patu – 14 outoa ongelmaa and solutions will run, while visitors include Suomen Komediateatteri’s Kirjamessut and Musiikkiteatteri Kapsäkki’s Joskus liikaa, aina liian vähän. Returning titles across TTT stages include Wicked, Käräjät, Vuonna 85 Reunion, Passio, Kärpäset and TTT-Club offerings such as Luolamies and Best of Mars vs. Venus.
