Franz biopic by Agnieszka Holland hits Finnish cinemas April 2

Future Film Oy announced that Franz, a biographical film about Franz Kafka directed by Agnieszka Holland, will premiere nationwide in Finnish cinemas on April 2. In the film's press materials, Holland explains she aims to tell Kafka's life not through a traditional linear narrative, but as a mosaic of fragments, dreams and letters that place him in fierce contention with his father, the world, and the expectations of those close to him.

The film adopts a kaleidoscopic portrayal of Kafka's life and work, tracing his trajectory up to his tragically early death at age 40 while highlighting Kafka's vast influence on modern literature.

German actor Idan Weiss leads the cast in the title role, a performance that has earned him a Best Actor nomination at the European Film Awards.

The project is supported by Creative Europe’s MEDIA program and is distributed in Finland by Future Film Oy. A trailer is freely shareable with media outlets to promote the release and generate early interest ahead of the nationwide debut.

Media screenings are scheduled in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Kuopio ahead of the release: Helsinki 25 March at 9:30 at Elokuvateatteri Gilda; Tampere 27 March at 9:30 at Arthouse Cinema Niagara; Turku 31 March at 14:15 at Finnkino Kinopalatsi; Kuopio 31 March at 13:00 at Kino Kuvakukko.
