A free floorball festival kicks off Thursday at Tampere Central Square to mark 100 days until the Men’s Floorball World Championships. The event follows an appeal seeking to annul Tampere’s hosting agreement for the tournament; the city recommended rejecting the appeal earlier this month.
Visitors can try their hand at floorball, meet the tournament mascot, take part in contests and see athletes and entertainment figures from Tampere and Turku.
Team Tampere, captained by Mayor Ilmari Nurminen, includes Saana Kujala, Jyrki Laaksonen, Arttu Laitinen and Nella Lipsanen, along with Jukka Peltola, Joona Rantala, Julia Saarinen, Nico Salo, Nina Taipale, Juha Torvinen and Vesa Toskala. Team Turku is led by Chief of Staff Tuomas Heikkinen and features Maria Bang, Susanna Juntunen, Salma Koskelainen and Eemeli Kouki, together with Veera Kuosmanen, Olli Laine, Jenna Saario, Laura Satamo, Iida Sulonen and Maria Viitala.
The Men’s Floorball World Championships run from 5–13 December 2026. Preliminary round matches will be at Hakametsä and the Kauppi Sports Center, and the championship matches will be staged at Nokia Arena.
