Free guided art bike tour from Central Square to Hiedanranta spotlights graffiti

According to the City of Tampere, a free public art bike tour will depart Tampere's Central Square for Hiedanranta on Tuesday, May 12 at 16:30. The guided ride is open to everyone and will introduce participants to Tampere's public art, with a particular focus on Hiedanranta's graffiti.

Riders need their own bicycle and a helmet, and are advised to bring a water bottle. Guidance will be offered in both Finnish and English, and the route suits cyclists of all levels. The event is organised by Tampereen seudun polkupyöräilijät ry in collaboration with the City of Tampere and Tampere University's Mobility Mindshift project. Art maps of downtown public artworks and murals are available to download for planning independent routes.

Cycling Week features a programme of related events. These include an art session with Galleria Ronga on Sunday May 10 (14:00–16:00) and a talk by cartoonist Tiitu Takalo about her cycling-themed work Polkimilla at Galleria Saskia on Monday May 11 (18:00–19:00). On Saturday May 9 the bike workshop on Sarvijaakonkatu 28 will host an open-door session (10:00–12:00), and commuters can pick up a free morning breakfast outside Galleria Ronga on Tuesday May 12 (07:00–09:00).

Quick bike repair points by Willari will be available for students at Tampere University downtown campus (May 11), TAMK main campus (May 12) and Hervanta campus (May 13), all from 12:00–14:00; these services are part of the Mobility Mindshift project. Schools across Tampere will run cycling skills and maintenance lessons during the week, and the programme is coordinated by city units, Tampereen seudun polkupyöräilijät ry and Ekokumppanit Oy with local partners.
