Goal nets cut and turf burned as TPV appeals to Multisilta residents
Goal nets and a water tap were damaged and fireworks burned the turf at TPV’s Multisilta pitch, forcing repairs paid from the club’s youth funds.
Aamulehti reports that goal nets have been torn or cut, the field’s only water tap was smashed again this year, and fireworks left black burn marks on the turf. Repair bills have fallen on the club’s youth funds.
TPV’s head of coaching, Petri Taskinen, told Aamulehti he hopes this will be the last time. “We want to continue training on a well-maintained artificial turf and I believe local residents want that too,” Taskinen said.
The club bought new nets for all goals last autumn, but most have been destroyed this year, forcing repairs paid from youth budgets. Tampere has long struggled with a shortage of football pitches, and TPV converted a sand field in Multisilta to artificial turf with the city’s permission to help its juniors.
The small, mostly volunteer-run club could not afford fixed fences or a shelter around the pitch, and it intends the surface to remain open to other local players when TPV is not training. The damage at Multisilta echoes a wider wave of vandalism across Tampere this year that has left neighbourhoods frustrated, and follows other incidents such as stone attacks that prompted the city to lock the Pispala–Santalahti footbridge at night earlier this summer.
