Gusty Rain and Wind Batter Tampere as Autumn Break Begins
Rain and grey skies greeted Tampere as the autumn break began, with Friday the gloomiest day and drier, partly sunny weather expected from Monday as temperatures range around 5–8 °C.
Rain and grey skies greeted Tampere residents as the autumn break began. Friday looks set to be the gloomiest day, with windy rain across the city before conditions improve in the Tampere region early next week, Tamperelainen reported.
A low pressure system is bringing widespread rainfall of about 5–25 millimetres nationally, with some central areas possibly seeing 30–40 millimetres, said Iiris Idoko, the on-duty meteorologist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute. Travellers heading north can expect sleet and the first snow in parts of Pohjois-Pohjanmaa and Kainuu, which may worsen driving conditions.
Tampere should see mainly cloudy weather over the weekend, with light drizzle possible on Sunday. Drier, partly sunny weather is expected from Monday to Wednesday, with daytime highs around 5–8 °C and nights dipping close to freezing. "You should enjoy the sunny moments if you're on holiday," Idoko said, while warning that local slippery spots such as bridges can still form and that a new low pressure system could bring unsettled weather later in the week.
