Hämeenkatu buses suspended from 2 p.m. Friday; central trams could face hours-long delays

ePressi reports Nysse said buses will stop running on Hämeenkatu in central Tampere from 2 p.m. on Friday, triggering diversion routes and disruptions to tram services in the city centre. Expect irregular timetables and longer journeys on affected routes.

Tram lines 1 and 3 will continue to run in the centre where conditions allow, but service interruptions beginning at 2 p.m. may cause delays that last several hours into the evening.

According to Tamperelainen, the disruption is linked to a national Rollator March. The event assembles on Koskikatu at 1:30 p.m. and departs at 2 p.m., crossing Hämeensilta towards the Laikunlava stage. Tamperelainen adds that the Laikunlava programme will start at around 2:30 p.m. and run for about an hour, including speeches by Mayor Ilmari Nurminen and vicar Harri Henttinen, performances by Costello Hautamäki and Karoliina Blackburn, music from the Rientola brass band, and a contribution from Tampere’s elderly council. Founders Outi Mäenpää and Jari Pirhonen say demand for the march is tied to concerns about services for older people.

Affected bus lines will follow these diversion routes: lines 2, 4, 7, 8, 10 and 30 will bypass the centre via Kaakinmaa and Ratinanranta. Lines 40, 90 and 93 will start and terminate at Sorin aukio E (Suvantokatu), with lines 90 and 93 serving a stop on Rautatienkatu. Lines 5, 31, 32, 33, 35, 50 and 52 will use Sorin aukio G (Hatanpään valtatie). Lines 70, 72, 80 and 82 will terminate at Pyynikintori F (market square). All stops on the diversion routes will be used by the affected lines.

Several central bus stops will be out of service during the disruption: Aleksanterin kirkko and Metso; Keskustori C–L; Koskipuisto C–D; Rautatieasema C–D (Hämeenkatu); and Sorin aukio F (Hatanpään valtatie). Westbound buses cannot reach Tuulensuu because of construction work at Hämeenpuisto, so the Metso and Aleksanterin kirkko stops are unavailable.

The interruption is sudden and expected to be short-lived, so the diversion routes may not appear immediately in the route planner. Nysse advised travellers to follow their line on the route planner map in real time and allow extra time, as route changes could produce delays into the early evening.
