Statues on Tampere's Hämeensilta have been dressed in women's gymnastics leotards this week as part of events promoting Jumppatytöt ahead of the opening of Tampere Light Weeks, YLE reports.
The outfits are modelled on the competition leotard of Minetit, the Tampere team that has won multiple world championships in group gymnastics. The campaign peaks on Sunday with a public gymnastics festival tied to the Light Weeks opening. Jumppatytöt will perform at Tampere Workers' Theatre, then a parade will leave the theatre at 17:30 toward Hämeensilta and the celebrations will conclude in Koskipuisto. Theatre tickets were still available on Friday afternoon. The parade and the Koskipuisto event are open to everyone, no theatre ticket required.
Jumppatytöt, the group behind the theatre show that has grown into a national phenomenon, won the State Prize for Public Information in 2025 and the Sports Psychology Act of the Year award in 2026. On Instagram they suggested the Pirkkalaisveistokset could become annual "exercise statues" in the name of equality; the Hämeensilta sculptures have been dressed for other causes before, from hockey jerseys to receiving a "voice" during the 2024 Tampere Biennale.
