Staff at Pirkanmaa wellbeing services have faced a recent rise in harassment, threats and targeted online attacks, and managers say the harsher tone is wearing down staff.

Staff at Pirkanmaa wellbeing services have faced a recent rise in harassment, threats and targeted online attacks across several services, Tamperelainen reports.

In-person incidents, events and communication channels have seen staff subjected to intimidation, personal criticism and doxxing, Pirha says.

Aija Tuimala, Pirha's HR director, warns the harsher tone is wearing down staff and urges critics to focus on actions or services, not individuals.

A fall 2025 survey by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health found roughly half of staff in hospital, rescue and emergency services had experienced mental violence from patients. Pirha says respectful interaction and clear, evidence-based decision-making about care can help reduce the problem.

YLE adds that the authority has faced other incidents this year as well, including a privacy breach that led to the dismissal of an oncology specialist in March and a small mammography records mix-up that linked some patient names earlier this year.
