Actors Jari and Petra Ahola have resigned from the permanent ensemble of Tampereen Työväen Teatteri to freelance and expand their company, while keeping ongoing stage roles at TTT.

"Acting is not disappearing for us," the couple said. They told Tamperelainen this week that they had resigned from the permanent ensemble of Tampereen Työväen Teatteri to expand their artistic work and grow their company, Ahola Acting Oy.

The move frees them to take roles and projects beyond the limits of a permanent contract while keeping theatre at the centre of their work. Jari joined TTT in 2006 and Petra in 2009. The split was amicable, and they said TTT will remain their home theatre; future collaboration will continue on a production-by-production basis.

They will also keep stage commitments at TTT, with Jari returning as Mauno Pepponen in Vuonna 85: Reunionissa and Petra appearing in Kärpäset. The couple plan to expand into touring shows, television and film work. Jari intends to pair acting and singing with more writing, composing and directing, while Petra takes leading roles at Tampereen Komediateatteri and appears in Klaus Härö's film Hetki ennen valoa. They will revive their comedy Tää on ihan perheestä at Komediateatterin Palatsi, with visits planned to Riihimäen Teatteri and Turun Linnateatteri.

The move comes amid leadership changes at TTT, with the artistic director due to leave later this year the artistic director's upcoming departure.
