Jatta Herranen has been appointed joint work‑life professor shared by Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences and will begin the post in early October; the chair is funded by a €500,000 donation.

Jatta Herranen has been chosen as the joint work‑life professor for Tampere University of Applied Sciences (Tamk) and Tampere University and will begin the post in early October, according to Aamulehti. The professorship is funded by a €500,000 donation from the Tampere Adult Education Foundation and aims to connect research, working life and vocational education.

Herranen, who holds a PhD, currently leads processes and education at Riveria, the North Karelia education consortium. She will serve as a leading researcher at Tamk while holding the work‑life professorship at Tampere University, bridging practical vocational training and academic research.

Tamk rector Mika Hannula said earlier this summer the chair aims to create an integrated entity for vocational education that Finland currently lacks. He also stressed its significance given that vocational student numbers rival the entire higher education sector.

The appointment follows the universities' earlier announcement of the joint professorship, which is intended to boost vocational education research.
