Juho Mäkelä's Debut 'I Can't Get You Out of My Mind' Dissects 85 Manserock Songs, Out Oct 20

Juho Mäkelä, a Helsinki-based author, will publish his debut book analyzing the lyrics of 85 Manserock songs spanning 1973 to 2021 on Tuesday, October 20. The release, reported in Tamperelainen, is titled I Can't Get You Out of My Mind: Woman and Emotions in Manserock Lyrics. It groups Finnish-language hits by emotion, covering themes such as longing, desire, fear, shame, disappointment, bitterness, agony, ecstasy, joy, faith, hope and love. Each entry includes a short contextual note. The collection probes questions fans have long asked, from whether Martti Syrjä seemed to foresee the arrival of the euro in the 1980s to who penned Popeda's Do You Really Want Me? Mäkelä, born in 1982, holds a Master of Science in Economics, is originally from Kangasala and now works as an entrepreneur in Helsinki. The book will be released in print and e-book formats. It arrives amid renewed local interest in Manserock, with events such as the Suuri Manserock return to Tullikamari later this season.
