Kangasala Plans to Cancel Kaivannon Psychiatric Hospital Demolition Contract Amid Delays

Kangasala plans to terminate the Kaivannon psychiatric hospital demolition contract as delays mount, with the Environmental Committee set to discuss the matter on Tuesday, YLE reports.

Demolition work on the Kaivannon site has fallen far behind schedule; the project was to be finished in early December, but progress remains incomplete. The city notes that the contractor has been warned several times over safety deficiencies and unclear invoicing, and the Environmental Committee will discuss the case on Tuesday.

Kaivannon psychiatric hospital closed about ten years ago, after which a temporary reception center run by the Finnish Red Cross operated on the site. The property is now owned by Kangasala, and plans have included housing as well as space for nature and recreation, according to the report.
