Kauppi to get new pedestrian and cycle ski bridge after 2026 Finnish baseball season
Construction of a new pedestrian, cycle and ski bridge in Kauppi will begin after the 2026 pesäpallo season; the existing underpass will close from the week starting 21 September 2026 and detours will be signposted.
According to the City of Tampere, construction of the new pedestrian, cycle and ski bridge in Kauppi will begin after the 2026 Finnish baseball (pesäpallo) season. The bridge will replace the current underpass and has been scheduled to avoid clashes with events at the Kauppi baseball stadium and the area's summer close. The existing underpass will be closed for the work from the week beginning 21 September 2026. Expect detours. Directional signs will be installed before construction starts, and pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted onto marked alternative routes that use existing paths. The detours will guide users from the south side of Kauppi Sports Park toward Kaupinoja and Fitness Trail 3. People moving through the area are asked to stick to the signed routes and follow construction site guidance. The city expects the project to be mostly finished by May 2027, ahead of the next Finnish baseball season, and apologises for any inconvenience. The work follows other recent pedestrian and cycle route changes in Tampere, such as the Valssipadonraitti temporary crossing project and the Yliopistontunneli pedestrian and cycle diversions.
