Kauppi University Health Centre for 60,000 Tampere Residents to Open by 2029

Aamulehti reports that a new Kauppi university health centre will serve about 60,000 Tampere residents and is expected to open around 2029. The city will sell the hospital-area plot to the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services company for €3 million.

The centre will be built on a Tampere city plot at the intersection of Kuntokatu and Arvo Ylpö Street in the Tays University Hospital area. Total construction costs are estimated at about €60 million. Demolition of existing buildings is set to begin late this year, with construction due to start in summer 2027.

Pirha, the wellbeing services company, pays nearly €137,000 a month for Tammelakeskus premises. It is finalising plans with the regional corporate and premises committee next week ahead of an autumn investment decision by the area board.

The new facility will replace services now offered at Tammelakeskus and is designed to respond to growing demand in eastern Tampere. Planned services include primary reception and adult social services, mental health and substance use care, and maternity and child health clinics. It will also provide developmental support and family guidance, outpatient rehabilitation and basic dental care.

The centre will serve as a hub for research, development, innovation and teaching. The plan aligns with the city's 2026–2040 service network plan to map where new services will be needed the city's 2026–2040 service network plan.
