Tays Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Building Tops Out, Set to Open in Early 2028

Construction on the new child and adolescent psychiatry building at Tampere University Hospital (Tays) has reached ridge height, and services are scheduled to begin in early 2028, Tamperelainen reports.
SRV is building the unit for the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county. Work began in January 2025 after a residential building on the plot was demolished. The new facility will bring all child and adolescent psychiatry functions into a single location. It sits next to the adult psychiatry T-building, close to the Kauppi outdoor trails.
About 150 construction professionals are currently on site. The element frame is in place and interior work is progressing in stages. Building services installations, roofing, masonry façade work and glass façade fitting are all underway.
The project follows Pirkanmaa's plan to centralise outpatient psychiatry in Tampere earlier this year and is one of several construction projects at Tays, after work began on an R-building extension to keep MRI services running in September. Working beside an operating hospital has required careful planning and coordination, with excavations carried out with sensitive imaging equipment in mind and traffic between several simultaneous sites coordinated. "The new building is being built on a tight plot next to an operating hospital. The hospital area sees about 10,000 people daily and the site pays special attention to avoid any disruption to hospital operations or movement in the area," says SRV area manager Tero Karislahti.
SRV was chosen in autumn 2025 to lead the final development phase of the hospital renewal programme and previously delivered the Tays Etupiha package, three new buildings and underground parking at a total cost of 250 million, completed in 2019.
