Länsilinjat contracts extended for Kangasala, Orivesi, Valkeakoski and Pirkkala bus routes
Tampere will activate contract options to extend Länsilinjat’s operation of several regional bus routes serving Kangasala, Orivesi, Valkeakoski and Pirkkala, with extensions starting in June and August 2027.
According to ePressi, Tampere will activate procurement contract options to extend Länsilinjat Oy’s operation of several regional bus routes serving Kangasala, Orivesi, Valkeakoski and Pirkkala. The extension periods begin in June and August 2027.
Lines 44 (Kangasala–Valkeakoski), 45 (Kangasala–Ruutana–Linnainmaa), 46 (Suinula–Ruutana–Kangasala) and 47 (Orivesi–Ponsa–Kangasala) are covered by a three-year main contract running from 3 June 2024 to 6 June 2027. The city will extend that agreement with Länsilinjat Oy by one year, from 7 June 2027 until 6 August 2028; the municipalities of Kangasala, Orivesi and Valkeakoski and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, Traficom, have approved the option.
Line 39 (Sankila–Suuppa–Höökinmäki) is governed by a separate three-year contract dated 5 August 2024 to 8 August 2027. The city will exercise the option periods in that procurement and continue the contract with Länsilinjat for two additional years, from 9 August 2027 until August 2029, when the Nysse winter timetable begins. Pirkkala municipality supported the extension.
The extensions keep Länsilinjat as operator for the affected routes, ensuring continuity of service across the Kangasala, Orivesi, Valkeakoski and Pirkkala corridors. The decisions use routine procurement provisions that let authorities extend existing contracts rather than launch new procurements, and come after earlier reports that Länsilinjat will take over seven Nysse routes from 1 September in a previous report.
Public transport board agendas and decisions are available in the board’s published materials.
